The engineering company Kent has been awarded a pre–Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract by the UK’s BP and Germany’s EnBW for the 2.9 GW Morven offshore wind project located about 60 km off Aberdeen, Scotland (United Kingdom). The FEED studies are expected to last six months and will involve engineering design work that supports key decisions, foundation type, corrosion protection concepts as well as transportation and installation feasibility. The Morven project will use fixed-bottom turbines in water depth between 65 and 75 m and will generate enough power to supply around three million households.
Scotland targets 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. At the national level, the United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (12.7 GW in 2021).
