PPC Group completes 2 GW solar PV cluster project in Greece

PPC Group has announced that it has completed the construction of a 2.13 GW cluster of solar PV projects in the cities of Amyntaio and Ptolemaida in Western Macedonia, Greece (PPC Group press release, 06/04/2026).  The projects have been developed in former lignite mine areas, and have the capacity to generate almost 3.2 TWh/year, which represents approximately 6% of Greece's annual electricity consumption. Once operational, they are expected to prevent the emission of more than 1.5 MtCO2/year. The projects include the 550 MW Phoebe (880 GWh of annual production), 200 MW Helios Velos 1 (320 GWh/year), Exochi 7 and Akrini each with 80 MW of capacity and an estimated annual production of 122 GWh.

Aditionally, PPC Renewables, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPC Group, has completed the construction of two electrochemical energy storage stations in the Greek cities of Ptolemaida and Meliti, with a combined capacity of 98 MW/196 MWh. The company is also developing a third BESS station in Amyntaio (50 MW/200 MWh), which is expected soon in 2026. The subsidiary has also been authorised to develop two pumped storage projects in Kardia (320 MW/2560 MWh) and South Field (240 MW /2880 MWh).
