POWERGRID commissions Rajasthan REZ transmission system (India)

POWERGRID has commissioned the Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan under Phase-III Part-H, a project designed to support the integration of up to 20 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan's REZ into India's national grid. The project became operational on 4 July 2026 (SolarQuarter, 05/08/2026).

The transmission system was developed by POWERGRID Vataman Transmission Limited. According to POWERGRID, the project is expected to facilitate the evacuation of renewable electricity generated in Rajasthan, while enhancing grid reliability and supporting the integration of clean energy into the national transmission network.

The company received the Declaration of Commercial Operation notification on 3 August 2026 and the project disclosure was subsequently submitted to the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange in accordance with regulatory requirements.

According to India’s National Electricity Plan 2022 (NEP 2022), the country expects to develop 190,000 km of transmission lines and 1,270 GVA of transformation capacity across the country to support the 600 GW of renewable capacity planned by 2032
