The Indian state-owned power transmission company, Power Grid Corp (PGCIL), has been awarded a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) contract for a 7 GW inter-state transmission system (ISTS) in India. The contract was awarded as part of a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) organised by PFC Consulting to set up the Khavda Phase-IV Part-B to evacuate 7 GW or renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, located in India’s Gujarat State. The project is expected to be completed under a 24-month period.
The Khavda park is planed to have a total installed capacity of 30 GW, of which 15 GW are expected to come online in 2024-2025, while the rest is scheduled for 2026-2027. Earlier in September 2024, Adani Energy Solutions was awarded the development of the Khavda Phase-IV Part-A transmission project, which will also be able to evacuate 7 GW of renewable power from the Khavda project.
At the end of 2023, solar and wind accounted for nearly 24% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 73 GW and 45 GW, while hydropower capacity reached 52 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
