Portuguese EDPR's renewable production rose by 13% in 2017

EDP Renovaveis (EDPR), the renewable subsidiary of the Portuguese electricity company Energias de Portugal (EDP), generated 27.6 TWh of renewable electricity in 2017, which is 13% more than in 2016. This increase is mainly driven by additional capacities in EDPR's North American operations, most of which are wind-power power generation facilities.

The company's total renewable based capacity now stands at 11 GW spread across 11 countries: 5.5 GW in North America, 5.2 GW in Europe (2.4 GW in Spain, 1.3 GW in Portugal and 1.6 GW in the rest of Europe) and 300 MW in Brazil. Around 600 MW of new capacities were added in 2017, of which 424 MW in North America, 127 MW in Brazil and 49 MW in Europe.

EDPR's power generation grew by 20% in North America to 15.1 TWh in 2016, by 4% in Europe to 11.7 TWh and by 9% to 0.9 TWh in Brazil. This trend is likely to increase since the group had 828 MW of onshore wind power projects under construction as of December 2017 (480 MW in the United States, 211 MW in Europe and 137 MW in Brazil).
