Portugal’s Galp discovers more than 10 Gbl of oil in Namibia

The Portuguese energy group Galp has made a discovery in the Mopane exploration block offshore Namibia, detecting more than 10 Gbl of oil. The company completed the first phase of the Mopane exploration campaign, finding oil columns containing light oil in high-quality reservoir sands at two different levels. Galp has an 80% stake and operatorship in the Petroleum Exploration Licence 83 (PEL 83), located in the Orange Basin, together with the country’s national oil company Namcor and the independent oil company Custos (10% each).

Namibia does not currently produce oil. Its oil resources are currently estimated at 2,190 mbl and its gas reserves at 300 bcm.
