Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 secures non-FTA export permit (13.5 Mt/year) (US)

The US DOE has issued a final authorisation to the US LNG company Sempra Infrastructure for LNG exports to non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) countries from Port Arthur LNG Phase II (13.5 Mt/year) in the US state of Texas. The authorisation marks the first final LNG export approval under the current US administration, aligned with its aim to restore regular LNG export permitting while also representing an important milestone towards reaching and FID on the expanding LNG project.

Phase I of the Port Arthur LNG project is currently under construction, designed to include two natural gas liquefaction trains totalling 13 Mt/year, two LNG storage tanks and associated facilities. The project is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2027 and 2028 for train 1 and 2, respectively. The project is being developed by Sempra Infrastructure, a 70%-owned subsidiary of the US LNG developer Sempra.
