Polskie LNG, the operator of Poland's only LNG import terminal in Świnoujście, has launched the tender procedure to select a contractor to oversee a 50% expansion of its capacity by 2021, due to the increasing demand for natural gas in the country. The process entails the bidders' prequalification stage, negotiations with short-listed companies and signing the contract with the selected contractor by the end of 2019.
This expansion is set to be implemented under the "design and build" formula and will allow the terminal to off-take 7.5 bcm/year instead of the current regasification capacity of 5 bcm/year. The tender procedure also entails the construction of a third LNG process storage tank to prop up the operational flexibility of the LNG terminal installation and ensuring the optimum natural gas process storage capacity and the construction of an LNG-to-Rail transhipment installation. The commissioning of the additional regasification expansion is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2021 while the construction of the other two projects is scheduled for 2023.
