The Polish state-owned energy group PKN Orlen has released its 2022 results, posting a PLN21.4bn (€4.5bn) profit, compared to PLN11.2bn (€2.4bn) in 2021. The company’s natural gas imports to Poland declined by 14% to 153 TWh, including 44% of LNG; LNG imports rose by 54% to offset the 66% fall in eastern imports (mainly from Russia). PKN Orlen's gas output rose by 31% to 75 TWh. The group distributed 126 TWh of natural gas in 2022 (-12%).
The group’s refinery throughput reached 37 Mt in 2022 (+23%). Its refinery production rose by 24% to 33 Mt and its sales of refined products by 25% to 30 Mt. In addition, PKN Orlen, which has an installed capacity of 5.1 GW (+1.8 GW, mainly from coal and gas), produced 12 TWh of electricity in 2022 (+8%)
In November 2022, PKN Orlen completed its merger with PGNiG, Poland’s largest gas wholesaler and retailer, active in production, import, storage, distribution and sale of gas. PKN Orlen also recently bought another Polish state-owned refiner, Lotos, and the power utility Energa.
