Polish and Slovak gas TSOs make positive FID on new gas interconnection

The Polish gas transmission system operator (TSO) Gaz-System and its Slovak Eustream have made a positive final investment decision on the proposed Poland-Slovakia gas interconnection project, which will have a capacity of 5.7 bcm/year to Poland and 4.7 bcm/year to Slovakia. Its construction is set so start in the second half of 2018 and the project will be completed by the end of 2021.



The gas pipeline project, included in European Projects of Common Interest (PCI), is a key component of the North South Gas Interconnections in Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe (NSI East Gas). This project will increase Poland's security of supply and grant the country access to the Baumgarten gas hub in Austria. Besides, is expected to allow surrounding countries to benefit from the direct access to different gas supply sources from the North, such as the LNG terminals at the Baltic Sea including Świnoujście LNG, Klaipeda LNG via Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania (GIPL).
