Poland's PGNiG signs deal with Sempra to buy 3 Mt/year of US LNG

The Polish energy group PGNiG and Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of the US energy group Sempra, have entered into a heads of agreement (HOA) for the purchase of  3 Mt/year of LNG delivered free-on-board (FOB) from Sempra Infrastructure's portfolio of LNG projects in the United States. The referenced HOA contemplates the negotiation and finalization of definitive 20-year LNG sale-and-purchase agreements (SPAs) for 2 Mt/year from the Cameron LNG Phase 2 project under development in Louisiana, and 1 Mt/year from the Port Arthur LNG project under development in Texas. Sempra Infrastructure is developing the 6.75 Mt/year Cameron LNG Phase 2 LNG export  in Hackberry, Louisiana, and the proposed 13.5 Mt/year Port Arthur LNG project, which received all the required approvals, in Jefferson County, Texas. LNG would be delivered to the planned 6 bcm/year Gdansk floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) as of 2027.

In April 2022, Gazprom halted gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract, due to absence of payment in roubles as of 1 April 2022, as requested by the company. Poland depends on Russian gas imports for most of their gas supply: the 10.2 bcm/year contract between the Polish gas group PGNiG and Gazprom covers around 50% of Poland's gas demand.
