Poland’s Orlen sees drop in profit in 2024, despite higher oil and gas output

The Polish state-owned energy company Orlen Group has released its 2024 results, posting a PLN7.95bn (€1.9bn) net profit, a 62% drop compared to 2023, mainly due to a decrease in sales volumes, and despite a growth in hydrocarbon output.

Orlen produced 20.6 mboe of crude oil and condensate in 2024, a 19% increase compared to 2023 (17.3 mboe). The group’s refinery throughput reached 38.5 Mt in 2024 (stable). Its refinery production rose by 1.4% to 36.2 Mt, while its sales of refined products decreased by nearly 5% to reach 31.4 Mt.

Orlen's natural gas output rose by 21% to 94.2 TWh, and the group's natural gas imports to Poland decreased slightly at 150 TWh (-3%), and included 47% of LNG. The group distributed 131 TWh of gas in 2024 (a 5% increase compared to 2023).

In addition, Orlen, which had an installed capacity of 6.1 GW at end 2024 (+0.6 GW compared to 2023, mainly thanks to renewable capacity additions), produced 17 TWh of electricity (stable compared to 2023).
