Poland extends freeze in residential energy prices to mid-2025

The Polish Council of Ministers has decided to freeze electricity prices for households in 2025, extending the maximum electricity price at the level of PLN 500/MWh (€115/MWh) for residential customers for another 9 months. In addition, the zero rate of the so-called capacity fee will be extended for households in the first half of 2025. According to the announcement, energy prices for households will remain unchanged until the mid-2025, when companies will be called to charge new tariffs, and the government will decide whether further intervention will be required. The new regulations are to enter into force on the day following their publication.

In 2023, the Polish government locked power tariffs for households using up to 2 000 kWh/year through a so-called solidarity shield. Poland expects that the extension of the measure allows for a flexible adaptation of energy policy to current market conditions. Without it, the government estimates that consumers would pay approximatively PLN 623/MWh (€144/MWh).
