Poland approves the location of Tworóg–Tworzeń gas pipeline project

The Śląskie Province Governor (Silesia, Poland) has approved the location of the planned Tworóg–Tworzeń gas pipeline project, which will be built by the Polish company Gaz-System.

It will be connected to the Tworóg–Kędzierzyn-Koźle gas pipeline (westwards), and a planned Pogórska Wola–Tworzeń gas pipeline eastwards. The construction of the facility is scheduled for 2018-2020 and will be subsidized with the European Regional Development Fund, under the framework of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program 2014 - 2020. The main driver behind the project is to increase the natural gas transmission capability of the Silesia region.

Gaz-System is currently investing in the development of more than 2,200 km of new domestic gas pipelines by 2025 (1,650 km by 2020). In July 2015, the European Commission approved PLN 3.1bn (€758m) in financial support for the construction of eight gas pipelines requiring a total investment of PLN 4.9bn (€1.2bn); the aid will cover 64% of the project costs.

The eight gas pipelines, namely Zdzieszowice - Kędzierzyn Koźle - Tworóg (expected in 2018), Pogórska Wola - Tworzeń (2020), Tworóg - Tworzeń (2018-2020), Leśniewice - Łódź (after 2020), Rembelszczyzna - Mory - Wola Karczewska (2020), Wronów - Rembelszczyzna, Wronów - Kozienice (after 2020), Szczecin - Gdańsk (Stage V Goleniów - Płoty, by 2020) and Lewin Brzeski - Nysa, are expected to be commissioned by 2025.
