Poland and Slovakia start construction of gas interconnector project

Polish gas transmission system operator GAZ-SYSTEM and Slovak EUSTREAM have annouced the commencement of construction of the 165 km Poland-Slovakia gas pipeline interconnection project on the Polish side. The project covers the extension of the internal transmission network in south-eastern Poland connecting the gas node in Strachocina (Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Poland) with the Slovak compressor station in Veľké Kapušany. The pipeline will have 5.7 bcm/year of transportation capacity towards Poland and 4.7 bcm/year towards Slovakia.

The project was financed under the TEN-E (Trans-European Energy Networks) and CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) programs. The connection of the Polish and Slovak transmission systems was included in the list of projects of common interest (PCI) adopted by the European Commission in November 2017 under the priority corridor North-South gas interconnections in Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe (NSI East Gas).
