Poland and Slovakia have inaugurated a new 10.4 bcm/year gas pipeline connecting the two countries, which enables Poland to import 5.7 bcm/year of natural gas, and grants Slovakia access to 4.7 bcm/year.
The 165 km new pipeline is part of the North-South Gas Corridor that links the gas terminal in Poland's Swinoujscie LNG terminal and the Baltic Pipe, to natural gas infrastructures in south-eastern Poland and farther central-eastern and south-eastern Europe.
The new interconnection is managed by Gaz-System and EUSTREAM companies, which received €33m from the European Union's budget through the Connecting Europe Facility program.
In July 2022, Poland and Denmark also connected a 10 bcm/year Baltic Gas offshore gas pipeline to the Danish transmission network in Faxe, Denmark, and to the Polish transmission system in Pogorzelica, integrating the gas networks of the two countries. The project is expected to be fully commissioned on 1 October 2022.
