Poland allows PGE, Ørsted, Orlen and Northland Power to form offshore wind JVs

The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has approved the creation of a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) and Ørsted to develop and build the 1,045 MW Baltica 3 and 1,498 MW Baltica 2 projects. The two projects, which are eligible to be included in Poland’s 2021 offshore wind allocation round, have already secured environmental permits and connection agreements and should be commissioned before 2030.

In addition, the regulator has authorised PKN Orlen to form a 51:49 JV with NP Baltic Wind, an affiliate of the Canadian company Northland Power. The two companies plan a 1.2 GW offshore wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea. The project has secured its location permit, filed its environmental permit and signed its grid connection agreement. Construction should start in 2023 and commercial operations are planned in 2026. It is expected to secure a 25-year Contract for Difference (CfD) offtake agreement.
