PKN Orlen will import 1 Mt/year of US LNG from Sempra Infrastructure

Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of the US company Sempra, has entered a long-term sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with the Polish oil and gas group PKN Orlen, to supply it with 1 Mt/year of LNG for 20 years on a free-on-board (FOB) basis.

The supplies will come from upcoming the Porth Artur LNG Phase 1 project, located in Texas, which include two gas liquefaction trains and LNG storage tanks and associated facilities capable of producing up to approximately 13.5 Mt/year of LNG. Sempra Infrastructure recently entered into long-term agreements with RWE, ConocoPhillips, INEOS and ENGIE for the sale and purchase of approximately 10.5 Mt/year of LNG from the Phase 1 project. Sempra is focused on completing the remaining steps necessary to make a final investment decision (FID) for Phase 1 of the liquefaction project in the first quarter of 2023. First LNG deliveries could start as early as 2027.

In November 2022, PKN Orlen (31.14% state-owned) finalised its merger with PGNiG (71.88% state-owned), the country’s largest gas wholesaler and retailer, active in production, import, storage, distribution and sale of gas. In 2021, PGNiG accounted for 89% of gas sales to end consumers gas sales to end consumers in Poland and for 80% of the volumes sold on the wholesale market.
