Phillips 66 acquires the 5.4 Mt/year Lindsey Oil Refinery assets (UK)

The US oil refiner Phillips 66 has acquired Lindsey Oil Refinery assets and associated infrastructure in the United Kingdom (Phillips 66 press release, 05/01/2026). The company plans to integrate key assets to its existent Humber Refinery since it finds the “scale, facilities, and capabilities” of the Lindsey Oil Refinery are not viable in its current form. Phillips 66 also plans to invest in a multiyear project at its Humber site to enable production of higher-quality gasoline. The deal is still completing its closing conditions, including customary regulatory clearances.

The 5.4 Mt/year (113,000 bbl/d) Lindsey refinery, located in Immingham (Lincolnshire) in England (UK), was owned by the Prax Group. The facility, which constitutes the smallest of the UK’s five remaining refineries, fell into insolvency under the weight of mounting debts left by its owners at the end of June 2025. The British government had announced its closure in July 2025 after it failed to sell the refinery under a bidding process.
