The Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corp. (BENLC) has secured the approval from the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) for the integration of its 2 GW North Luzon offshore wind project into the Philippines grid.
The project is located in the Province of Ilocos Norte (Northern Philippines), and it is scheduled to start commercial operations by mid-2030. The company awaits the completion of NGCP’s planned 500 kV Burgos Substation to ensure the project’s grid connection, and the assessment for the development of the Port of Currimao for offshore wind service operations by the Philippine Ports Authority.
BENLC secured the pre-development environmental compliance certificate for the offshore wind project in May 2025, which was certified as an energy project of national significance by the Filipino Department of Energy and was issued a green lane certificate by the Board of Investments. The company is a JV between PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and Danish developer Copenhagen Energy Group.
At the end of 2024, the Philippines had a total installed capacity of 29 GW, of which about 1.5% represented wind (427 MW onshore).
