Polish state-run oil and gas company PGNiG has signed a definitive 20-year supply contract with United States-based company Port Arthur LNG, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy. Under the agreement, PGNiG will buy 2 Mt/year (2.7 bcm/year) of LNG from the Port Arthur LNG terminal (Jefferson County, Texas) starting from 2023 on a FOB (Free On Board) basis. PGNiG will then either deliver the cargoes to Polish customers or trade the fuel on the global market.
Port Arthur LNG is developed by Sempra LNG & Midstream, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy. The liquefaction project is expected to start in 2023 and will include two trains capable of producing 13 Mt/year (17.55 bcm/year). It is set to receive its final environmental impact statement from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in January 2019.
By 2023, PGNiG will receive at least 7.45 Mt/year of LNG. Such volumes will contribute to increasing the security of gas supplies for Poland and reduce its dependency to Russia.
