PGE in talks with Ørsted about a stake in two wind park (Poland)

Polish power company PGE has started negotiation with Danish energy company Ørsted concerning the sale of a 50% participation in two offshore wind projects in Poland with a capacity of around 2.5 GW. The two wind parks are the 1 GW Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-3 and the 1.5 GW Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2, which are expected to be commissioned respectively in 2026 and 2030.

In February 2019, PGE announced that 13 companies were interested to participate in the development of the two projects. PGE is seeking to sell up to a 50% stake in two special purpose vehicles that will be developing the offshore projects and will operate with the selected partner on a joint venture (JV) basis. The partner is expected to have extensive experience in European offshore wind, be prepared to share knowledge with PGE and be able to support technical aspects of the projects such as managing contractors.

Offshore wind is one of PGE's strategic development options after 2020. At the end of 2018, the company owned about 2.2 GW of renewable energy assets across Poland, most of which are wind parks and hydropower plants.
