Malaysian state-run energy giant Petronas currently plans to commission its second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit by the first quarter of 2020, instead of July 2020 as previously planned. Upon completion, the 1.5 Mt/year PFLNG Dua project would enable the liquefaction, production and offloading processing of natural gas in the offshore Rotan natural gas field, which is located approximately 240 kilometers offshore Sabah (Malaysia).
Petronas' first FLNG project, PFLNG Satu, was commissioned in 2017. The 1.2 Mt/year offshore LNG plant taps gas reserves from the Kanowit field.
In 2018, Petronas reported a significant leap in revenue (+12%) due to higher average prices for all its products. However, total LNG sales volumes decreased by 6% throughout the year to 28.9 Mt, mainly due to the lower volumes from LNG plants. The group secured 10 LNG sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) during the year, corresponding to a total volume of 5.8 Mt/year. Petronas' gas sales in Malaysia rose by 3.1% mainly due to the growing domestic demand.
