PETRONAS and JERA sign a 20-year LNG deal (2 Mt/year)

PETRONAS and Japan’s JERA have entered into a long-term LNG supply agreement, extending their cooperation into the 2040s (PETRONAS press release, 10/06/2026).

Under this agreement, PETRONAS, via its wholly owned subsidiary PETRONAS LNG, will supply up to approximately 2 Mt/year of LNG over a 20-year period starting in 2028.

The agreement strengthens PETRONAS’ role as a key supplier to Japan, which is among the world’s largest LNG importers, according to the Malaysian company.

Malaysia is a major gas exporter, with 22 bcm of gas exported in 2024 (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
