Petrofac and Saipem win US$4bn contract for Sriracha refinery (Thailand)

A consortium including the oil and gas services provider Petrofac and the engineering companies Saipem and Samsung has been awarded a US$4bn contract by the Thailand state-run company Thai Oil for its Sriracha refinery expansion project.

The project will transform the existing oil refinery in Sriracha (Chonburi, Thailand) into a more environmentally-friendly facility, which will produce higher quality transportation fuels. Besides, the expansion project is also slated to rise the refinery's production capacity from the current 275,000 bbl/d to 400,000 bbl/d. The contract's scope of work entails engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services along with the addition of new complex processing units, all required utilities and supporting facilities.

Thailand's current refining capacity amounts to 1.2 mb/d, distributed in 6 main refineries: Thai Oil (275 000 bbl/d in Sriracha), Star Petroleum Refining (165 000 bbl/d), IRPC (215 000 bbl/d), PTTGC (280 000 bbl/d), Bangchak Petroleum (120 000 bbl/d) and Esso (177 000 bbl/d) in Sriracha.
