Petrobras starts producing oil from new platform at Lula field (Brazil)

Brazilian state-owned oil group Petrobras and its partners of the BM-S-11 Consortium have started production on the P-67 platform FPSO (floating, production, storage and offloading unit) platform in the Lula offshore oil and gas field in the Santos basin of Brazil off Rio de Janeiro's state. The new platform has the ability to process up to 150,000 bbl/d of oil and 6 mcm/d of gas, contributing to Petrobras' plans to boost production from the coveted pre-salt oil play and to reach the mark of 1 mboe/d later in 2019. As of November 2018, the Lula field had a daily crude oil output of about 900,000 bbl/d.

Production from Lula is increasing step by step as Petrobras began production at Lula Extremo Sul with the P-69 FPSO in October 2018. Other platforms are in operation at the block: FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis (Lula Pilot), FPSO Cidade de Paraty (Lula Nordeste Pilot), FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba (Iracema Sul), FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí (Iracema Norte), FPSO Cidade de Maricá (Lula Alto), FPSO Cidade de Saquarema (Lula Central), P-66 (Lula Sul).

The Lula field was discovered in 2006 and is located in the BM-S-11 concession, operated by Petrobras (65% stake, in partnership with Shell (25%) and Galp Energia (10%). It already accounts for 30% of hydrocarbon production in Brazil and is expected to hit peak production in 2020 or 2021.
