Petrobras completes privatisation of natural gas supplier Gaspetro (Brazil)

The Brazilian national oil and gas company Petrobras has completed the sale of 51% of its natural gas distribution affiliate Gaspetro to Compass, a subsidiary of the conglomerate Cosan, for a total consideration of BRL2.1bn (US$390m). In July 2019, Petrobras signed a Term of Cessation Commitment (TCC) with Cade to promote competition in the natural gas sector in Brazil, forcing the company to privatise Gaspetro. Gaspetro, which was owned by Petrobras (51%) and Mitsui (49%) is a holding company with stake in 18 natural gas distribution companies, located in all regions of Brazil. The company owns and operates around 10,000 km of distribution networks, supplying more than 500,000 customers with a distributed volume of about 10.6 bcm/year. Compass, which has a 19,000 km distribution network, supplied 4.5 bcm of natural gas in 2020 to around 2.1m clients.
