Petrobras (Brazil) announces record oil and gas production in 2023

The Brazilian oil and gas company Petrobras has announced that it achieved new oil and gas production records in 2023, reaching a total production of 2.78 mboe, representing a 3.6% increase compared to 2022 levels. The Brazilian company surpassed the 2022 record of 1.97 Mboe/d of total own production of oil and gas in the pre-salt, reaching 2.17 Mboe/d in 2023. In 2023, Petrobras saw several projects start their production, with four new platforms on stream, namely FPSO Anna Nery and Anita Garibaldi at the Marlim field, FPSO Almirante Barroso at the Búzios field, and FPSO Sepetiba at the Mero field.

In the presentation of its 2024-2028+ Strategic Plan, Petrobras stated that it exceeded its strategic 2023-2027 goals and that it would be investing a total of US$102bn (most of it dedicated to oil and natural gas). According to the announcement, Petrobras is expecting the entry of 14 new FPSOs in the 2024-2028 period, ten of which have already been contracted and it aims to produce 2.8 mboe/d in 2024 and 3.2 mboe/d in 2028.

Petrobras’s 2024-2028+ Strategic Plan is aligned with the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME)’s program to promote international investments in oil and natural gas exploration in a bid to boost regional development and strengthening Brazil’s position as one of the largest oil producers in the world. At the national level, in 2022, Brazil produced more than 157 Mt of crude oil.
