Peru grants authorisation for the 250 MW Solimana solar project in Arequipa

Peru’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has granted a definitive authorisation to the Peruvian company Ecorer for the development of the 250 MW Solimana solar project, located in the districts of Mariano Nicolás Valcárcel and Ocoña, Camaná province, Arequipa region (southern Peru).

The solar power plant, which represents an estimated investment of about US$280m, will comprise more than 705,000 solar panels of 400 W each while being instaleld at 1,850 meters above sea level.

The Solimana plant is part of Peru’s solar plan, which targets the development of 4.7 GW of solar PV capacity in the country. The new capacity is intended to be incorporated into the country's National Interconnected Electric System by the end of 2028. At the end of 2021, solar represented about 2% of Peru’s installed capacity with 291 MW. The country currently has 3.5 GW of solar projects under development.
