Pertamina likely to take over Chevron's Rokan PSC beyond 2021 (Indonesia)

The Indonesian government will order the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to take over Chevron's operations in the Rokan production sharing contract (PSC) when the current operating contracts expires in 2021. In April 2018, Chevron submitted a proposal to extend the contract beyond 2021 but the government prefers Pertamina to operate Rokan between 2021 and 2041 under a gross split PSC. However, no official document has been signed so far.

The Rokan PSC located onshore in central Sumatra is Indonesia's single largest source of crude oil and is operated by Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI). CPI is the country's third largest oil producer, with 173,000 bbl/d of liquids (24% of total production) and 182 mcf/d (5.1 mcm/d) of natural gas (2016).

On Sumatra, Chevron operates 90 fields including two major fields, namely Duri and Minas. Aside from Rokan, Chevron has operating interests in four offshore PSC areas in the Kutei Basin, of which a 92.5% interest in East Kalimantan, a 72% interest in Makassar Strait, a 62% interest in Rapak and a 62% interest in Ganal.
