Penco Lirquén LNG project in Chile delayed by 12-18 months

Norwegian floating LNG unit provider Hoegh LNG has announced a 12-18 month delay in the commissioning of the Penco-Lirquén LNG import terminal in Chile.

The 3 Mt/year (4.1 bcm/year)  floating regasification and storage unit (FSRU) project, developed by EDF (45%), AEM (45%) and US energy group Cheniere (10%), is now expected between late 2019 and the second quarter of 2020, instead of 2018, as initially planned. The project would be progressing toward a final investment decision in accordance with the revised schedule.

The terminal received the approval of the Environmental Assessment Commission (Comision de Evaluacion Ambiental, CEA) of the Biobio region in July 2016. However the Supreme Court of Chile revoked the environmental permit in January 2017, considering that the consultation carried out within the environmental qualification process contained vices.
