Pemex will start production at the 243 kb/d Olmeca refinery end of January (Mexico)

The Mexican state-owned energy group Pemex announced that the Olmeca refinery (located in Dos Bocas in the Mexican State of Tabasco) is expected to start production on 31 January 2024, with an estimated 243 kb/d. The company plans to achieve in 2024 a total production of 1,512 kb/d with the sum of the Dos Bocas production (243 kb/d) and the Deer Park refinery (269 kb/d) located in the US State of Texas. The Olmeca refinery, with a capacity of 340 kb/d (including 170 kb/d of gasoline and 120 kb/d of diesel) is expected to increase its production to 320 kb/d between 2025 and 2026 and with this, Pemex’s six refineries are expected to achieve a total combined production of 1.5 Mb/d. 

Pemex is the tenth largest world oil producer and it dominates production, transformation, and distribution of crude oil and oil products in Mexico. Since 2018, Pemex has increased its production from 300 kb/d to 655 kb/d in 2023, and it aims to become self-sufficient in fuel by 2025 following the Refining Plan for Mexico (2018).
