Pemex submits development plan for the Zama oil field (Mexico)

The Mexican national oil company Pemex (operator) and its partners Wintershall Dea, Talos Energy and Harbour Energy have agreed on a Unit Development Plan (UDP) for the Zama oil field in the Gulf of Mexico, which has now been submitted to the National Hydrocarbon Commission (Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos, CNH) for review and approval. With its estimated gross recoverable resources of 600 to 800 mboe, the field, which was discovered in 2017, is expected to produce up to 180,000 bbl/d at peak.

The installation of two offshore platforms and the drilling of 46 wells are both included in the UDP. The production will be brought to land via two 68-km pipes, where it will be processed in new facilities that are only dedicated to the Zama project, situated in the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal in Paraiso, Tabasco. A final investment decision (FID) is expected within 2024, after the front-end engineering design (FEED) studies have been completed, when cost and schedule risks have been appropriately managed, and when the key contracts are prepared for awarding.
