Pemex awards FEED contract for 180 kb/d offshore oil project in Mexico

Mexico’s state-owned petroleum company Pemex has awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the US$4.5bn Zama offshore oil development Mexico to Doris Group, a French engineering firm. The FEED work will be based on the scope of the Unit Development Plan approved by the Mexican Hydrocarbon Commission (CNH) in 2023, covering the planning of two offshore platforms, 68 km of pipelines, cables, and a new onshore facility dedicated to the project. Doris will collaborate with two Mexican engineering companies, Nomarna and Summum, to carry out the FEED work.

The Zama field is located in Tabasco (Mexico) and is being developed by Pemex (50.43%), Wintershall Dea (19.83%), Talos Energy (17.35%), and Harbour Energy (12.39%). The field is estimated to contain gross resources of 600 to 800 mboe, and to produce up to 180 kb/d of oil at its peak, which equals around 10% of Mexico’s current total oil production. The partnership expects the first of the planned 29 oil-producing wells (46 total wells) to come online in 2025.
