PEJ submits plans for Poland's first nuclear power plant (3.7 GW)

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PJE) has submitted its application for the development of Poland’s first nuclear power plant to the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency (PJE press release, 31/03/2026). The project is planned to be developed at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the Choczewo commune (Poland), and it will consist of three AP1000 units with a total installed capacity of 3,750 MWe. The contractor for the project is US consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel. The project started preparation works since 2005 and has already obtained strategic administrative decisions including the required environmental permits. Construction works are scheduled to start on 2028, with each reactor taking about seven years for their conclusion. Afterwards, a one-year period is expected to conduct testing and commissioning, with commercial operations expected between 2036 and 2038

According to Poland’s NECP, the country aims for nuclear to have around 7.7 GW operational in 2040 and to represent around 19% of the power mix by then.
