PBF Energy has signed two agreements with ExxonMobil and Venezuela's state-owned oil company PDVSA, the two shareholders of the 189,000 bbl/d Chalmette refinery in Louisiana (United States), to acquire the facility for US$322m. The refinery was commissioned in 1915 and runs both light and heavy crude oil, with around 1/3 of its throughput coming from Venezuela (it accounts for 10% of US crude oil imports from this country). PBF will maintain the supply contract with Venezuela and plans to increase the throughput of light-sweet crude from around 40,000 bbl/d to 60,000 bbl/d.
PBF Energy already operates three refineries in the United States. In 2010, the group acquired the 160,000 bbl/d Paulsboro refinery in New Jersey for US$360m and the 182,200 bbl/d Delaware City refinery in Delaware for US$220m from Valero. In 2011, it acquired Sunoco's 160,000 bbl/d Toledo refinery for US$400m.
