TE H2 (a joint venture of TotalEnergies (80%) and EREN Groupe (20%)), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and A.P. Moller Holding, have signed a preliminary contract for land reservation to develop a 1 GW onshore wind and solar complex to produce green hydrogen in Morocco. The contract should allow the partners to launch pre-FEED studies where the project will be located, near the Atlantic coast in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region in Morocco.
The Chbika green hydrogen project will integrate 1 GW of onshore solar and wind capacities to power the production of green hydrogen through the electrolysis of desalinated seawater and its transformation into 200 kt/year of green ammonia for the European market. The project will constitute the first phase of a green hydrogen production hub.
Morocco aims to have a local hydrogen market of 4 TWh and an export market of 10 TWh by 2030, which would require the development of at least 6 GW of new renewable capacity.
