The Pakistani National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the final selling price for 660 MW Thar coal-fired power plant, located in the Tharparkar district of the Sindh province. The regulator sets the tariff for the project, which required a total investment of US$952m, at PKR14.8/kWh (US$7c/kWh) of electricity for the first 10 years, and PKR9.3/kWh (US$4c/kWh) for the next 20 years.
The project, which entered commercial operations in 2019, is owned by the Pakistani conglomerate Engro Group (51%) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (35%). CMEC is also the engineering and procurement contractor (EPC)of the project. China Development Bank, China Construction Bank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China provided U$621m for the plant.
