Pakistan approves Oracle Power's 700 MW Sindh coal-fired project

The British company Oracle Power and its Chinese partners Sichuan Provincial Investment Group (SCIG) and PowerChina International Group have secured the approval of the Pakistani Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) to develop a 700 MW coal based power plant at Thar Block-VI in the Sindh Province (Pakistan). The project's Final Investment Decision (FID) is now expected for the second quarter of 2018.

The application was submitted in November 2017 and PPIB approved the Notice to Proceed and the Letter of Intent of Oracle’s subsidiary Thar Electricity (TEPL), which originally comprised a first phase of 660 MW (now 700 MW) out of a total plant's size of 1,400 MW.

The Thar Block VI is located in the Pakistani Sindh province 380 km east of Karachi. It is located in the neighbourhood of the Thar coal field. Lignite resources on site are estimated to amount 175 Gt.
