OX2 seeks construction permit for a 1.7 GW offshore wind project in Sweden

OX2 has submitted a permit application under the Act on Sweden's Exclusive Economic Zone for a 1.7 GW offshore wind project in the Kattegat sea area, in Sweden. The Galatea-Galene wind project is divided into two areas, Galatea located about 25 km outside Falkenberg and Galene about 25 km outside Varberg. The power plant will include 101 wind turbines, with a maximum height of 340 meters, and is expected to generate 6-7 TWh/year. Earlier in October 2021, the company filed a Natura 2000 permit application for the project.

Sweden has currently around 200 MW of operational offshore wind capacity, on top of 9.8 GW of onshore wind capacity (end of 2020). In September 2021, Ørsted submitted an environmental report for the up to 1.5 GW Skåne offshore wind project planned approximately 22 km south of Skåne in southern Sweden. The project requires an investment of more than SEK10bn (€980m). No commissioning date has been set.
