Ocean Winds (OW, a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie), Sumitomo Corporation, and Banque des Territoires have reached a final investment decision (FID) on the 496 MW Dieppe-Le Tréport offshore wind project, located off Normandy in northern France. The project represents an investment of €2.7bn. The offshore wind project will comprise 62 turbines and will be able to supply power to nearly 850,000 French households. The FID opens the way for the beginning of construction, which will begin in 2024 with the installation of the piles. The project is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2026.
Earlier in April 2023, Ocean Winds also made a positive FID on the 496 MW Îles d'Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind project, located off the Vendée coast in western France. The €2.5bn project is expected for 2025. Ocean Winds has a portfolio of 15 projects in 7 countries, with 1.5 GW in operation and 15.1 GW under construction and in development.
France targets 40 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2050 and intends to award 2 GW of projects each year from 2024. The 480 MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind park, France’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project, was commissioned in September 2022.
