The British energy supplier OVO Energy is set to launch a new renewable energy division, OVO Renewables, dedicated to modernising and repowering the UK’s ageing onshore wind parks. By upgrading existing sites with advanced technology to extend their lifespan and boost output, OVO Renewables aims to accelerate project delivery and minimize delays linked to infrastructure planning. The first phase of modernisation could add up to 500 MW of capacity.
In 2023, the UK government committed to fully decarbonising the power system by 2035 and aims to double onshore wind capacity by 2030, from approximately 15 GW to 30 GW.
