Over 7.8 GW of renewable projects proposed in Chile at the end of 2019

According to the ERNC Report of the National Energy Commission (CNE) of Chile, 107 renewable power generation projects with a cumulated installed capacity of 7,825 MW and worth US$14.5bn were in the environmental qualification stage within the Environmental Impact Assessment Service (SEIA) at the end of 2019. Most of these projects were solar projects (97 projects, accounting for more than 6.5 GW, or 84% of the proposed capacity), followed by wind projects (7 projects totalling 1.2 GW, or 16% of the total capacity), 2 mini hydropower and 1 biomass projects (less than 0.2% of the capacity).

Among the largest projects, Colbun is developing the 610 MW Jardin Solar PV project in the Tarapacá region, while Energía Renovable Verano Tres is proposing the 198 MW Rarinco wind project in the Maule Region. In addition, Andres Green Company is proposing the 1,009 MW Seongnam solar project in the Antofagasta region, which would consist of a 700 MW PV plant and 2 solar thermal (CSP) plants of 150 MW each.
