Ørsted’s 1.3 GW Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm reaches full operation (UK)

The Danish power company Ørsted has reached full commercial operations at its 1.3 GW Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm, which is now the world's largest fully in service, located 89 km off the Yorkshire coast (northeastern England, United Kingdom). The project comprises 165 wind turbines and will help power over 1.4m UK homes with renewable energy.

Hornsea 2 is situated alongside its 1.2 GW sister project, Hornsea 1. Together they can power 2.5m households and make a significant contribution to the UK Government’s ambition of developing 50 GW offshore wind in operation by 2030. The Hornsea Zone also includes the 2.8 GW Hornsea 3 project, currently under development, which has been awarded a contract for difference from the UK government earlier in 2022.

Ørsted now has 13 operational offshore wind farms in the UK, providing 6.2 GW of renewable electricity to the country. Overall, the company has about 8.9 GW offshore wind in operation, 2.2 GW under construction, and another 11 GW of awarded capacity under development.
