Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Danish energy group Ørsted has taken a series of measures to stop its cooperation with Russian companies: the group has ceased all sourcing of biomass and coal from Russia for its power plants, will not enter into new contracts with Russian companies, and has made sure that none of Ørsted’s direct suppliers for the build-out of renewable energy are Russian.
Where gas supply is concerned, Ørsted will continue to buy natural gas from Russia under the existing long-term take-or-pay gas purchase contract with Gazprom Export, but will not extend it when it expires in 2030. Under the contract, which was entered into in 2006, Ørsted receives approximately 20 TWh/year of gas; the group will offtake the minimum yearly volume of gas under the contract.
