Ørsted starts offshore construction of 920 MW offshore wind parks in Taiwan

Ørsted has started  the offshore construction for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind projects in Taiwan with a total capacity of 920 MW. The Danish company was awarded the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind parks in June 2018. In July 2020, Ørsted signed a 20-year fixed-price corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) for a corporate customer to offtake the full production of the wind plants. The two projects are expected to complete offshore installation by the end of 2025 and to be fully connected to the grid in 2026.

Taiwan aims to reach 5.7 GW of offshore wind capacity by the end of 2025. The offshore wind target was extended to 10 GW between 2026 and 2035 in 2019 and again to 15 GW in 2021. Offshore wind capacity amounted to 613 MW at the end of 2023, accounting for less than 1% of the country’s total installed capacity (65 GW).
