Ørsted has conditionally selected Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) as the preferred turbine supplier for the 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 and the 242 MW Gode Wind 3 offshore wind projects in the German North Sea. SGRE would deploy its new SG 11.0-200 DD offshore wind turbine and would be in charge of a five-year service and maintenance agreement. The final contract will depend on final grid connection dates and final approval from German authorities, that will condition Ørsted’s final investment decision (FID) on the projects.
The 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 project consists of the merger of three offshore wind projects, namely the 420 MW Borkum Riffgrund West 1, the 240 MW Borkum Riffgrund West 2 and the 240 MW OWP West offshore wind projects, located about 53 km off the island of Borkum, in the Leer District in Lower Saxony. The power plant is expected to be commissioned in 2025. The 242 MW Gode Wind 3 project also consists of the merger of the 110 MW Gode Wind 3 and 132 MW Gode Wind 4 offshore wind projects, located 32 km off the island of Norderney, and that is expected to be commissioned in 2024.
