The Danish energy group Ørsted has received approval from the Skåne County Administrative Board to build a 1.5 GW offshore wind park, which will be located about 22 km south of the city of Ystad and Trelleborg (southern Sweden), in the Baltic Sea. The Skåne County Administrative Board has also approved the developer’s environmental impact statement for the wind project, which was originally submitted in September 2021.
The Skåne offshore wind project, which will comprise 125 turbines, is expected to be operational by 2029 after 3 or 4 years of construction (according to the permit, construction must start at the latest by the end of 2033) and to produce 7 TWh/year of electricity. The project’s investment cost is estimated to reach between SEK25bn and SEK50bn (€2.3-4.6bn).
The Skåne County Administrative Board has approved the project despite potential issues with the views of the Swedish Armed Forces. Ørsted has said that the project design could be modified in order to comply with the requirements of the Swedish military. The Board has sent the matter to the Swedish Government for a final decision on the project.
