Ørsted plans to develop a 1,184 MW offshore wind project in Connecticut (US)

The Danish energy group Ørsted has announced plans to develop a 1,184 MW offshore wind project off the coast of the US State of Connecticut. The Starboard Wind project could generate enough power to supply 600,000 US households. Ørsted has submitted its proposed project to the US Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Ørsted and Eversource are currently building the 704 MW Revolution Wind offshore wind project off Connecticut, planned for completion in 2025. Earlier in March 2024, the company received approval from the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for its 924 MW Sunrise offshore wind project located off the State of New York.

However, in November 2023, Ørsted decided to cancel the development of the Ocean Wind 1 (1,100 MW) and Ocean Wind 2 (1,148 MW) offshore wind projects in the State of New Jersey. Ørsted said that the cancellation of the projects is a consequence of additional supplier delays further impacting the project schedule and leading to an additional significant project delay.
