Ørsted outlines 15 GW offshore wind capacity ambition (Denmark)

Danish energy group Ørsted expects the global renewable energy market to triple by 2030 and plans to reach an installed renewable capacity of more than 30 GW. Besides, the company plans to reach 15 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, up from the previous target of 11-12 GW.

The company will invest approximately DKK200bn (€26.8bn) over the 2019-2025 period, out of which 75-85% will be allocated to offshore wind park projects. Onshore wind investments will make up between 15% and 20% of the total investment, while the remainder (0%-5%) will include investments in bioenergy and customer solutions.

Ørsted's current renewable portfolio includes about 11.9 GW of wind parks (both offshore and onshore) and biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plants that are either in production, under construction or have been given final investment decision (FID). It also entails projects with a capacity of 4.7 GW, for which the company has been awarded concessions but still awaiting FIDs.
